I believe in providing experiential, interactive trainings tailored to the unique needs of each setting in order to ensure a learning experience that is both stimulating and relevant. All trainings provided include a trauma-informed care perspective. Trauma-informed care views service provision through a lens of trauma. It involves having a basic understanding of trauma and how trauma impacts survivors, understanding trauma triggers and unique vulnerabilities of trauma survivors, and designing services to acknowledge the impact of violence and trauma on people’s lives. Finally, a trauma-informed approach is sensitive and respectful: advocates seek to respond to traumatized individuals with supportive intent and consciously avoid re-traumatization. Trauma-informed care shifts the philosophical approach from “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”
Trainings offered include:
Inclusion – The importance of modeling and teaching acceptance at home, at school, at work and in the community.

Recommendations for Nicky as a trainer...
"Nicky has provided training on Vicarious Trauma to the doctors in our Primary Care Department. She is a very effective trainer with a warm, supportive style. The knowledge she shared and her suggestions were very well applied to the specific issues these doctors face in their work with children. Each attendee left the class having the tools to identify the specific symptoms of Vicarious Trauma in oneself as well as effective means to cope with them. We hope to have her return to do more presentations in the future."
Peggy Pearson, MFT, Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland, Oakland, CA

Our parents were truly enriched by her insight into multicultural issues and the creative, thoughtful approaches that she suggested."
